Breakfast Yogurt Jar

Breakfast Yogurt Jar

Michelle Genttner

These jars are a fan-favourite at Unboxed Market, and can usually be found with our yogurts.  The best part about the breakfast yogurt jar is how versatile it is: swap regular yogurt for greek or plant-based, trade maple syrup for honey, add any combination of berries or fruit.  You can even amp up the protein by adding some raw almonds or hemp hearts!

While we call them Breakfast Yogurt Jars, these are an excellent meal at any time. Have one on hand for your midday snack craving, post-workout, or as a quick lunch.

Are you someone who likes to meal prep?  Make a full batch of these and keep them in the fridge for the week.

Have kids who are looking for a snack? Encourage them to make their own flavour combinations. These are a great way to get little hands involved in food preparation. Watching chia seeds expand and gel in water is still one of our favourite parts of this jar.

Tell us in the comments what flavour combinations you've tried!

And remember, you can always add one to your online cart for delivery or pickup.

The longest part of this meal prep is waiting for the chia seeds to soak. It's also the most entertaining (watching those little seeds popping and gelling together 😍). It also doesn't really require any attention after the first stir, so if you have other meal prep to do (or if you really want to finish watching a show!), set up your seeds and come back to them later. The best part is, you can soak them at any time. They'll last refrigerated for 5 days, so you can prepare your yogurt jars as you need them!

Directions:

  • Add water to chia seeds. Give a quick stir and let sit for about 15 minutes or until they have formed a jelly-like texture.
  • Mix in yogurt until fully incorporated.
  • Spoon yogurt mixture into mason jar (or any other container you have on hand that can close!).
  • Add layer of granola to jar.
  • Top with fresh blueberries.
  • Drizzle maple syrup over everything.

Keep refrigerated until ready to eat (max 5 days).
Enjoy straight from the jar (scoop your spoon all the way to the bottom!), or spoon into bowl.

Substitutions:

Yogurt - higher/lower fat, Greek-style, plant-based

Berries - whatever berry or fruit you have on hand

Maple syrup - honey, agave syrup, coconut sugar

Additions:

Raw almonds, cashews, hemp hearts, protein powder

Let your imagination fuel your day!
