Our Mustards’ Stories
When we opened Caplansky’s Deli in 2008 we made everything by hand, including our mustards. Our mustards are still made that way in small batches using all natural ingredients. We use only selected yellow and brown Canadian mustard seeds. The seeds are stone milled to make the creamiest mustard possible. All our mustards are vegan, gluten-free, kosher. All our ingredients are non-gmo. We use no additives, preservatives, colouring or artificial flavours. Our mustards are made in a strictly nut-free facility and are appropriate for a low sugar diet.
Ballpark – fan favourite
Referring to this classic mustard as simply “yellow” or “prepared” would be like calling the Mona Lisa “a nice painting” or Mt. Everest “a big mountain”. Our Ballpark Mustard is nostalgia in a jar. One taste reminds you of family picnics, children’s games and maybe your first barbeque. This condiment is a compliment to any hotdog, sausage or ham sandwich.
Old Fashioned – top seller
When we’re feeling fancy, we call this “the caviar of mustards”. The pop of yellow and brown mustard seeds in your mouth brings little bursts of savory delight. The flavour is unique: celery seeds. This baby does it all: charcuterie boards, salad dressings, marinades and fancy croissant or baguette sandwiches.
Horseradish – the deli essential
The best burger mustard around. This is, in fact, beef’s best friend. The trio of Mustard, Coriander seed and Horseradish bring out the best in beef. Add some to the fresh ground mixture before forming patties and then add more when dressing the bun. Schmear it on a wellington or use it as a binder on your favorite bbq brisket.
Spicy – live a little
Silver Medal Winner in the Worldwide Mustard Competition at the Wisconsin Mustard Museum always elicits a “WOW”. You can see the red chilis and green jalapeños that bring the heat. Not visible to the naked eye is the magic that transforms a turkey sandwich into evidence of the Divine or a grilled cheese into a Cosmic experience.
Other Good Stuff:
All of our packaging is recyclable and refillable. We donate a portion of our sales to No Kid Hungry, an organization devoted to ending childhood hunger. We pay our staff a living wage.
We offer our mustards in retail jars and foodservice jugs. Why use mustard on your menu when you can use a brand that lets your customers know you support a craft brand like ours?
We probably don’t call our mom as often as we should but hey, no one’s perfect.
